The purpose of the Freedom Area Recreation Council is to build a public recreation program using public school buildings, grounds, parks and facilities, volunteers and local organizations, both public and private to stimulate interest in promoting and furthering the cause of recreation. The Freedom Area Recreation Council is comprised of Elected Officers, Board Members, Program Representatives and interested individuals who share a common interest in recreational activities in the South Carroll area. All members are volunteers except for the Community Coordinator who serves as a liaison with the Carroll County Bureau of Recreation. The Freedom Area Recreation Council works in cooperation with the Carroll County Department of Recreation and Parks.

The Freedom Area Recreation Council oversees the general operation of all programs sponsored by or affiliated with the Council. The Community Coordinator schedules all school and athletic fields for our recreational use.

Program fliers are distributed in Carroll County Public Schools in September, December, April and June. Copies are available in the Eldersburg Library or by e-mail by sending a request to FreedomRecCoordinator@gmail.com

Join us for a great evening full of painting, creativity, drinks, and fun! Just bring your favorite bottle of wine, beer or non-alcoholic drink, and we’ll provide a few snacks.

“Painting, who me?” Yes, you too CAN paint! No experience necessary.

You’ll create an original 12” x 16” acrylic painting surrounded by other ad-venturous and/or budding artists with various painting skills. We have developed a step-by-step process that can make an artist out of anyone, and send you home with your very own creation to hang on your wall!

All your supplies (canvas, paint, brushes) will be provided. Unless otherwise noted, all participants must be 21 or older. Cost: $39 per person.

Relay For Life is a fun-filled, family friendly overnight event. The Relay For Life of Freedom Area will take place at Liberty High School Stadium. It begins on Fri. evening June 14th and ends on Sat. morning June 15th. Event is free and open to the public.

Activities will include a Haunted Trail, pumpkin painting, face painting, a maze, a 5K run, a bonfire with marshmallows & hot cider), great food, and much, much more. Something for all ages!!!

Mark your calendar to attend this event to help support Freedom Area Rec’s ongoing field maintenance efforts, Oct. 25th and 26th. 7-9:30PM (Rain Date Oct 27th)

Jennifer Leigh Ebert lost her life to Chordoma Brain Cancer on April 14, 2013. She was very involved in the Freedom Area Sports programs and her children played in several sports through FARC. Her family is holding a benefit to cover the expenses associated with this tragedy.

What: A Celebration of the life of Jennifer Leigh Ebert. There will be a buffet served, cash bar, silent auction, money wheel, 50/50, tear-offs, raffles, and dancing.

Cost of Tickets is $30 per person.

Jenn’s Story:

Jennifer Leigh Ebert, mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend, lost her life to Chordoma Brain Cancer on April 14, 2013. Her struggle was sudden and severe. Those of us around her felt helpless in the weeks before her passing. As the door closes on her life, another one opens. It’s the door of opportunity. The opportunity to help her husband Mark Ebert, son Zach Schwartz a 2012 graduate of Century HS, and her 10 year old twins Hunter and Shelby Ebert to cover the mounting medical and final expenses associated with this tragedy. Jenn famously created and ran various fundraisers benefiting other families in need. She was well known for this. Now it’s our turn to do the same for her.

Have you ever dreamed about creating movies? In this session, students will be learning about the different stages of production. In the first class the students will learn about pre-production and how to brainstorm. Movie ideas will be discussed and put into a script so that the filming can begin! Throughout the remainder of the session, students will focus on the production. Students can learn how to create different camera effects, including the use of a green screen. Editing will be done by the students if time allows. At the end of the session we will hold a movie premiere to show off their hard work to parents and friends. If you are interested in movie-making, but never took a class, this is the class for you!
