If you have questions or want to pay in cash we will have 2 walk-in sessions Saturday  January 7&14 at Freedom Optimist Hall upstairs from 10-2.

Girls Rec. Softball Divisions are as follows:
Pre K-Kindergarten (must turn age 5 by Sept. 1, 2017)
1-3 grade (Coach/Machine Pitch)
3-4 grade (Kid & Machine Pitch)
5-7 grade(Kid Pitch)
8-12 grade(Kid Pitch)
Emphasis is placed on fun and instruction.

Registration is not considered complete and players will not be assigned to a team until payment is received.

Refund Policy:
There is a $20.00 non-refundable administrative fee on all registrations.

Before March 15, 2017 - 100% less admin fee
After    March 15, 2017 - 0%

Practice begins in March 15 for Grades 1-12.
Season begins for all divisions April 8- June 10.

We will be holding free pitching instruction clinics in  January & February 2017 for Grades 3-4, 5-7 and 8-12 Divisions.  All pitchers or potential pitchers are encouraged to attend.  We will have indoor pitching practice session from January through March.  Register for sessions during sign-up.   Times and exact dates to be determined.  We will also hold an indoor catching clinic, and some outdoor fielding hitting and clinics. Additional information to follow.

If you wish to be a Team Manager, Assistant Coach, Team Parent or Volunteer in any other way you MUST register online.  Please note - all Team Managers & Assistant Coaches will also be required to additionally register with Carroll County - instructions can be found on our website.

Welcome to Freedom Optimist Spring Rec Soccer
Ages 3 – Grade 8
Lots of fun for everyone –Eldersburg Elementary School – April – Mid June.   Play with your friends!!  (older age groups short sided fields).   Team sizes and age grouping will depend on the number of participants.  Requests will be honored but will be done on a first come first serve basis.
 Season will run on Sunday mornings April 9 – June 11.  8 weeks - 1 week of practices – 7 weeks of games.
Cost: $65.00/player
($5.00 sibling discount)

Ball sizes per division are:
Size 3 Clinic (3-4 year olds), Kindergarten, Boys and Girls 1 & 2
Size 4 Boys and Girls 3, 4, and 5/6
Size 5 Boys and Girls 7/8

If you are volunteering in our program you must register as a volunteer - Make sure you register - after you register your child. If you are a volunteer Coach, Assistant Coach or Team Parent you must also complete the Carroll County Background check – see our website – for details.  If you coached in the fall please check your expiration date for you background check before doing new background registration.

Refund Policy is:
The refund requests need to be made in writing, either mailed or e-mailed to the commissioner:

    If the request is received on or before 03/15/17 you receive the entire fee less $ 15.00
    No refunds after 03/15/17 unless the request is due to an injury which would allow the player unable to participate during the season.

Freedom Area Recreation Council Scholarships

Freedom Area Recreation Council offers continuing education scholarship opportunities to graduating seniors at Liberty High and Century High.  Applications can be found on the link below or at school guidance offices or Eldersburg Library beginning January 15.  All applications are due April 1, 2017

County Heat Policy & Thunder and Lightening Policy

HEAT:  Approximately 30 minutes prior to the start of the activity, temperature and heat index reading should be taken at the site or from or a comparable source.  The following are recommended guidelines for coaches, program leaders and volunteers to follow with regards to Department sponsored youth activities:

Heat Index: 80-89              
Use caution; monitor athletes carefully for necessary action.

Heat Index: 90-104
Use extreme caution; remove helmets and other equipment if not involved in contact.

Heat Index: 105-129
Alter uniforms by removing items where feasible; practice should be shortened with low intensity & limited conditioning.

Heat Index: 130 & above



At the first sound of Thunder or the first sighting of Lightening - all activities are to be stopped and participates are to clear fields to a protected area and wait 30 minutes before activities are to resume.  Any additional occurrence starts the 30 minute count over.
