Volunteer of the Year

Jo Ann Huber has never been the type of person to bury her head in the sand when it comes to volunteering within the community. Her commitment to excellence has been a driving force and inspiration for others to follow.   As a recreational and travel coach, she has been active leader in the sports of basketball and lacrosse.  In 2012, Joann is and will be the Co-Commissioner of the girl’s lacrosse program and a head coach.  Additionally, she is the head coach of a girls travel basketball team.  She has also worked with local high schools to develop, foster and mentor youth referees in these activities, giving them valuable learning experiences, enhancing their own development within these sports.

Notwithstanding these commitments and efforts, beginning in 2010 and continuing today, Joann has worked diligently to bring a new program online,  Freedom field hockey.  Prior to her initiating this program, Freedom families were commuting to other areas of the County and beyond to participate in this activity.  Through her strong desire, commitment and tireless effort, nearly 175 youth registered and participated in the field hockey program in 2011 and 2012.  She has worked to improve the facility at Hodges Park and has developed positive relationships with local schools.

Additionally, Joann has been an active participant in monthly FARC meetings and has contributed positively other programs within the council.

As if all of this wasn’t enough, Joann  still finds time to put in more volunteer hours by helping with field work, fundraisers and the lacrosse play day.  The Freedom Area is blessed to have JoAnn’s vision, leadership and hands on help. It is truly an honor and privilege for us to name JoAnn Huber as our volunteer of the year.
